Get ready to shake, rattle and roll as the country’s largest Rock ‘n’ Roll and nostalgia festival, Cooly Rocks On announces their unbelievable 2021 line up of rockabilly, swing and rock ‘n’ roll artists from across the country.

Uniting nostalgia enthusiasts, the annual event will feature top artists and bands, including Pat Cappoci, BOOM! BOOM! DELUXE, Lucky Seven and many more who will have crowds grooving to the sounds of the 50s, 60s and 70s across five action-packed days and nights.

Following the festival’s merge with VIVA Surfers Paradise, festival organisers are bringing beloved Elvis tribute artists Brody Finlay, Jack Gatto, Che Orton and Nic King, along with their Blue Suede Shoes to blow the roof off the Cooly Rocks On stage.

Major Events Gold Coast’s, Festival Director, Mark Duckworth, said the calibre of artists who have joined this year’s line-up will see fans flocking to live performances over the event.

“We have curated a range of stellar rockabilly, swing and rock ‘n’ roll musicians from across Australia as we prepare for one of our best festivals to date,” Mr Duckworth said.

“2020 was a tough year for music, so it is great to be able to bring back this festival with such a rockin’ line-up and support musicians. The 2021 festival will see locals and tourists alike return to the Coolangatta beachfront for the ultimate celebration of nostalgia as they indulge in the sounds of yesteryear while enjoying much-loved activations and events such as the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest and Shannons Show ‘N’ Shine.”

While artists from as far as South Australia and even New Zealand travel to the festival, local crowd favourites Ella Fontaine & The SugarShakers and The Detonators will be playing to their adoring home crowds as they join the Cooly Rocks On line-up.

One of the Gold Coast’s first major music events occurring this year, visitors will continue to converge on the Southern Gold Coast as the celebrated Cooly Rocks On event continues to boost the local economy and assist local tourism providers in fast-tracking their recovery.

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said that the announcement of such a stellar program will only welcome more fans to the iconic festival this June.

“Diversifying our events calendar is critical as we emerge from the challenges of Covid so I’m delighted to see this iconic event has reinvented itself to appeal to an even wider audience,’’ said Mayor Tom Tate.

“I encourage all Gold Coasters, and our valued visitors, to get on down to Cooly and share in the music, sights and surrounds that make Cooly Rocks On such a brilliant weekend.’’

Cooly Rocks On transforms Coolangatta into a celebration of the cars, music, memories and moments of the 50s, 60s and 70s in a colourful explosion of sound and culture, featuring events including the Harvest Moon Swing Ball, Miss Rockabilly, Shannons Show ‘N’ Shine and the new addition of the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest.

The free festival will be in full swing from the 9th to the 13th of June, welcoming enthusiasts and locals alike to catch a glimpse into the past and indulge in live entertainment, classic cars and vintage outfits.

Pat Capocci
Since forming nearly 10yrs ago, Pat Capocci has emerged as one of Australia’s most respected practitioners of Rockabilly and Roots music. Growing up in the Maitland-Hunter region of New South Wales, Pat spent his early years listening to and being influenced by traditional roots music of yesteryear. Pat’s writing style blends a unique feel of western swing, jazz, country and blues which has acclimated into him having produced five top records.

BOOM! BOOM! DELUXE have been taking the New Zealand Rockabilly and Rock n’ Roll scene by storm, with two acclaimed albums of original 50’s inspired Rock n Roll and high energy performances leaving tired but happy dance-floors behind them. Fronted by NZ Rockabilly royalty pin-up legend Hettie LaBombe and partner harmonica blowing D.D. Deluxe their modern Rockabilly delivery with hints of Jazz and Swing (courtesy of Hettie’s singing and playing style) and also heavy rock and blues (D.D’ contribution) makes for a truly unique experience. Recently signed to Plan 9 Trash records in Austria, the band are touring Australia and Europe in 2021! Deluxe’s brand of high energy 50’s influenced rock n’ roll is sure to get your feet tapping.

Lucky Seven
Lucky Seven, Australia’s Hottest Swing Band. When a likeminded attachment of musical aficionados grace the stage the result speaks for itself. As these swingin hepcats grab hold of the musical pendulum and swing with it, you can be guaranteed of an entertaining experience with Lucky Seven.

The Lincolns
The Lincolns are an Adelaide based 4 piece Teddy Boy band who play a mix of High Energy Rock n Roll and Rockabilly classics with their own unique style and sound. Dressed in their drape coats, box jackets, drainpipe trousers and creepers, The Lincolns punch the songs out with the same enthusiasm, style, and energy as they were played when things were really kicking off in the fabulous fifties. They are guaranteed to keep you bopping the night away!

Shelley Minson
Shelley Minson and her guitar-playing husband Lawrie play a fun mix of Rockabilly and Honky Tonk. Shelley’s debut album ROCKABILITY has received widespread airplay with a number of singles reaching top 10 on the Australian Country charts. Shelley has had a love for the 50s and has been dressing in a vintage-inspired style for a number of years. She has appeared in many retro magazines and has competed in many pin-up competitions. Shelley has played Cooly Rocks On, Parkes Elvis Festival and the Tamworth Country Music Festival. We Can’t wait to welcome her back to the Cooly Rocks On stage in 2021.

The Detonators
Known as Australia’s high priest of roots rock n roll, the Detonators were formed in Melbourne way back in August 1997. This popular hard-working quartet have never been afraid to hit the road, performing at more than 3000 venues, the Detonators have a finely honed array of original songs and a stage show that only comes from years of show business. Their music is best described as a lethal combination of early blues with a sprinkling of rockabilly and early rock n roll thrown in. Dancing shoes, listening ears and drinking arms are compulsory for any good time Detonators show, because you never know what Rock-bottom James is going to do or say next!

The Ezra Lee Show
Ezra Lee is Australia’s wildest piano player, with an original style that’s steeped in rumbling boogie-woogie, low down blues and untamed rockabilly. The Ezra Lee Show’s career highlights including opening for Jerry Lee Lewis in Las Vegas, playing alongside Aussie luminaries James Blundell and touring with rockabilly pioneer Wanda Jackson for the release of her hit comeback album The Party Ain’t Over. The Ezra Lee Show has popped up at some incredible events including Bluesfest, Chromefest and left exhausted dancers and big smiles in his wake.

The Hi-Boys
The Hi-Boys are a 4 piece wild original Rock ‘n’ Roll band from Queensland. Being signed to LA record label WILD, they’ve released two albums and have made their way around Europe touring and playing some of the biggest shows on the Rock ‘n’ Roll scene. They bring a new raw sound mixes of the early 50s and early blues with some late Aussie punk that is The Hi-Boys. Definitely and high-energy band you won’t want to miss at Cooly Rocks On!

Itchy Fingers
Itchy Fingers are a four-piece 50’s & 60’s Rock’n’Roll, Rockabilly, Rhythm & Blues band from Melbourne. Formed in 1992 the band has been performing at various festivals and venues throughout Australia. Check out Itchy Fingers toe-tapping beats at Cooly Rocks On.

Ella Fontaine & The SugarShakers
Fronted by Singer/Song-writer Ella Fontaine, Rupert Jenner on electric guitar, Toby Mellonie on double-bass, and Billy Bakos driving the drumbeat, this four-piece ‘filly-billy’ band is sweetening the palate of Queensland rockers. With their own high-energy brand of music, the Sugar Shakers represent Americana-style music: rock’n’roll, rockabilly, swing and blues. You won’t want to miss moving and grooving to Ella Fontaine & The Sugar Shakers at Cooly Rocks On.

Atomic Hi-tones
From their first gig to now the Atomic High Tones have been a Hi Octane, Hi Revvin’ Rockabilly Band out of control from Melbourne Australia! The band has supported international artists and headlined many times themselves, appearing at Hot Rod events, Clubs & Music Festivals all round Australia and New Zealand. The Atomic Hi-Tones is fronted by Cliff Jolly with Dave Attana on lead guitar/vocals, Dave Williams on double bass/vocals, Rob O’Toole on drums. Their music stylings encompass a rockabilly repertoire with intruders from other genres and decades. “It works for us and is probably why we get booked outside of the rockabilly and rock’n’roll scenes as well”, says Cliff. With music in their blood, the guys can’t wait to perform a live gig again.

Cherry Divine
Dubbed the “Princess of Rockabilly”, Cherry Divine is an internationally travelled, high energy, Rockabilly artist. Cherry plays her own original songs along with covers from her female idols like Wanda Jackson, Janis Martin, Brenda Lee, Etta James, Ruth Brown and Lavern Baer. If you can’t wait until Cooly Rocks On to see her you can catch her regularly on Rockin’ 247 Radio and Rockabilly Radio. She is sure to keep you up on the dance floor and entertained all night long.

The Pacific Belles
Dubbed Australia’s very own “Andrews Sisters”, the 1940’s inspired singing trio The Pacific Belles are favourites at rockabilly festivals & events. Betty, Dot and Mabel will take you on a journey back in time to re-live all your favourite classics including ‘Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy’, ‘Don’t sit under the Apple Tree’‚ ‘In the Mood’ and many more classic. The Pacific Belles are Australia’s hottest retro style singing trio all while bringing the look of vintage glamour.

Issi Dye
Issi Dye has been a household name in entertainment in Australia for over 45 years! In the 1960’s Issi appeared on Television programs like Bandstand, Kommotion, The GO! Show, Countdown and Uptight. He’s performed thousands of concerts and cabaret shows, appeared on countless Television programs in front of millions of people all over the world. During the 70s, Issi toured supporting great performers like, Roy Orbison, The Beach Boys, Ray Charles, The Supremes. The Memphis Suns
The Memphis Suns are a Rockabilly trio playing popular 50’s tunes with influences from naturally Elvis, Glen Glenn, Bill Haley, Chuck Berry and more. They capture the sounds of the very early Sun Session recordings, and some early RCA recordings by using the same instruments and techniques used back then. They primarily are an acoustic band that really brings a blast from the past to each live performance. Take a journey back in time with The Memphis Suns at Cooly Rocks On.

Jake & the Cadillacs
Let Jake and the Cadillacs make you feel as if you have been transported back to a time of hot-rods, bobby socks and pompadours! Based on the East Coast of Australia, Jake and the Cadillacs are guaranteed to get you revved up with their high octane, high-class Rockabilly, Rock’n’Roll and swing style tunes! Front-man Jake Maloney not only sings and plays multiple instruments but he is also one of Australia’s top Rock’n’Roll and Swing dancers, moving and shaking from start to finish every show. Jake will keep you entertained as he rocks across the stage with his high-energy and charismatic dance moves like no other! Jake and the Cadillacs will make you feel like you’re rockin’ from dusk to dawn!

Swingabilly Ray
A legend who knows how to get you moving and shaking leaves no-one sitting down. Swing-A-Billy Ray Keepence DJ flare, covers genres from the 1920’s through to the 90’s, he’s got a vintage and retro twist and will put a smile on your face during Cooly Rocks On. Che Orton
New Zealand Elvis Tribute Artist Che Orton has successfully proven himself to be New Zealand’s best Elvis Tribute Artist, with a loyal following behind him and two decades of performances. Only a few have what it takes to pay true tribute to the King of Rock ‘N’ Roll, and Che is certainly one of them. Che has wowed fans with the legend’s musical hits for the past 24 years. Che placed 2nd in the senior section at the 2019 Parkes Elvis Festival and took out title at the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artists Contest held during VIVA Surfers Paradise and headed to Memphis USA to compete in the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest at Graceland. Jack Gatto
Listening to Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and Freddie Mercury sparked Jack’s love of rock, blues and country music. Jack first began performing as an Elvis Tribute Artist in November 2014. He prides himself on entertaining fans with a respectful tribute to the King. Jack is recognised as one of Australia’s leading Elvis Tribute Artists, winning a string of awards nationwide. In 2016, he again represented Australia in the World Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Competition in Memphis, Tennessee. In which he was a finalist. Jack has wowed audiences all over the country and are continuing to grow their following everywhere they perform. Catch him on the Cooly Rocks On stage 9-13 June 2021.

Nic King
Crowned Australia’s Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist winner 2017 and represented Australia in Memphis as top 20 in the world. Nic’s portrayal of Elvis is one which he has spent years crafting to ensure not only a show which reflects an authentic Elvis performance but also one which reflects Nic as a performer. Nic is well known throughout Australia and has taken his act nationally and internationally with rave reviews. Nic has been an Elvis fan since the age of 4 years old when he first received a cassette tape of Elvis last album Moody Blues. Nic loved performing the 70s jumpsuit era Elvis and is drawn to Elvis big Ballard and gospel songs. Watch him live at Cooly Rocks On 2021.

Brody Finlay
An incredible performer, Brody Finlay is no stranger to winning Elvis tribute contests. Brody was the 2018 winner of the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist contest at VIVA Surfers Paradise, as well as taking 1st place in the 2019 Universal Elvis Tribute Artist contest at the Parkes Elvis Festival. Brody grew up loving the sounds of Elvis Presley, singing on stage since the age of five and has developed an uncanny likeness to The King’s movements, voice and mannerisms.
