Your Gold Coast guide to the best gigs this summer

Dominica Czaczka | November 2019

The mercury is set to rise this summer, with a host of music festivals and live gigs heating up the Gold Coast music scene. From brand new festivals to hit up with your best mates to touring home-grown talent, it’s time to clear your calendar and raise a glass (or plastic cup) to a summer of music you won’t forget.

The Roots Music Festival – Sunday 1 December

Add a splash of reggae, a dash of folk and blues and a twist of soul and voila; you have the recipe for the Gold Coast’s very first Roots Music Festival. Start your summer by soaking up the fresh sounds of Little Georgia, Karl S Williams, Bobby Alu and Band of Frequencies as you take in the views of HOTA’s tropical parklands.

Summertime Sessions in the Village – Friday 29 November and 6 and 13 December

Summertime Sessions in the Village have returned to Mudgeeraba to deliver Friday evenings of free live music to hinterland locals. Grab a picnic rug and nosh on some local fare as you settle in for an evening of tunes from the Gold Coast’s best acoustic talent.

Chilled out beats and balmy summer afternoons – where do we sign up?

IVEY at Miami Marketta – Sunday 15 December

Gold Coast kids IVEY are bringing locals only vibes to Miami Marketta as they return for a headline show, featuring fellow Gold Coast artists Peach Fur and Lotus Ship. Local music venues supporting local talent – what’s not to love?

Tijuana Cartel at the SoundLounge – Saturday 21 December

Following a massive 2019 with 3 months of sold-out Australian winter touring and a successive European tour, electro-roots legends Tijuana Cartel return to home turf and take the floor at locals haunt SoundLounge.

Best Night Ever – Sunday 29 December

It truly will be the best night ever when Ruby Fields, The Chats, The Bennies, Press Club and more join forces at Miami Marketta’s Best Night Ever. With a secret headliner yet to be announced and the gig signalling Ruby Field’s first ever Gold Coast appearance, it looks like the stacked line-up will make for a sold out show third year running.

The Amity Affliction at Coolangatta Hotel – Wednesday 29 January & Thursday 30 January

Hardcore punk rockers Amity Affliction will touchdown at Cooly Hotel in early 2020 as part of their massive regional tour ‘All My Friends are Dead’. The band will bring nu metal band Ocean Grove and New Zealand’s own Antagonist AD* on the road with them, guaranteeing an amped up crowd and a heavy time in the mosh.

Send It Festival – Saturday 25 January

Strap on your dancing shoes kids and get ready to send it. Australia’s biggest and best EDM artists and DJs will descend on the Gold Coast at Send It Festival’s debut, with the likes of Will Sparks, Joel Fletcher, Mashd’n’Kutcher and more keeping you partying away during the Australia Day long weekend.

Double Baked at Mo’s Desert Clubhouse – Saturday 25 January

Who can say no to froths and riffs? Creative community hub Mo’s Desert Clubhouse is fast becoming a fan favourite on the Gold Coast’s cultural scene, with the live music destination once again hosting mini-fest Double Baked. Round up the crew for an afternoon of craft brews, games and a line-up of local and interstate bands wrapped up in a vibin’ warehouse set-up.

The Rubens at Coolangatta Hotel – Friday 31 January

Triple J darlings The Rubens will hit our shores in early 2020 when they hit up the Cooly Hotel on their regional tour. If they’re on your Most Played playlist on Spotify you’ll want to get in quick – these lads know how to sell out a show.

One Love Festival – Saturday 1 February

Mr Bombastic himself will grace the Gold Coast with his presence when One Love makes its Australian debut at Broadwater Parklands in 2020. Jamaican legend Sean Paul, top reggae artists Third World and Toots & The Maytals will join the headline and have you swaying to the beat.

For the Love Festival – Saturday 22 February

Ok while this one technically isn’t on the Gold Coast, it’s just over the border in Ebenezer Park so we’re going to go right ahead and claim it as one of our own #sorrynotsorry. Aussie DJ Hayden James will headline the festivities alongside SET MO, Mansionair, Touch Sensitive and Safia to keep you dancing all day (and night) long. With a backdrop of ocean views and sunny skies, this festival will keep those summer vibes rolling for a little longer.

Queen + Adam Lambert at Metricon Stadium – Saturday 29 February

All hail the Queen – no, not our dear old Liz but the legendary British rockers. While the Bohemian Rhapsody tour may be sans Freddie Mercury, Adam Lambert has stepped in to rock our very own Metricon Stadium. There are limited tickets still available, so snap up your seats and you’ll be belting out ‘We are the Champions’ in no time.
