HOTA heats up with new entertainment program

After what has been a trying year for the arts and culture sector, HOTA is jumping into 2021 with ZING – a new program full of live entertainment running from January to April.

ZING heralds the first chapter of exciting new programming in 2021 for HOTA and will feature everything from art, performance, music, and film, inviting audiences to make new memories, revisit familiar favourites, and celebrate creativity.

A comedy festival, a live performance from Sydney-raised pop rock band 5 Seconds of Summer and the Gold Coast Film Festival are just some of the exciting events making up the ZING program this year.

HOTA CEO Criena Gehrke says HOTA has remained resilient over the last year and is now ready to ring in 2021 with ZING.

“Reflecting back on the year, I’m proud to say that HOTA has led the way nationally in the arts and culture sector in response to the global pandemic,” says Ms Gehrke.

“As soon as we were able, we welcomed back our artists and community to HOTA. Acknowledging that artists are at the heart of what we do, during a challenging period we launched a quick response artist grant Rage Against the V(irus), supporting over 150 Gold Coast artists and funding their work during a time when they needed it most.”

“Since then, we haven’t looked back – programming intimate lakeside sessions with Fireside, the east coast premiere of the major earth installation Gaia during WONDER welcoming over 15,000 visitors and fast tracking a $100,000 commission for artists to be involved in the inaugural HOTA Gallery exhibition SOLID GOLD, to name a few.

“It has been quite the year, but we are excited and optimistic for what’s to come. The local community has been such a big support, and we promise to keep delivering more great art and events to the Gold Coast including the opening of the HOTA Gallery and kicking off 2021 with our new live program ZING.”

Opening Saturday 8th May, the new $60.5 million HOTA Gallery will feature an inaugural program of Australian exclusives, celebrations of Queensland artists, a dedicated Children’s Gallery, special events, artist talks, education programs, never-before-seen works from the City Collection and more great and surprising art, indoors and out.

All events meet social distancing and hygiene guidelines per HOTA’s COVID safe plan and is available on their website.
