The Gold Coast has seen exceptional success in recent years in attracting major events to the city and has earned the region a reputation as a global events destination.

Pacific Fair Magic Millions Polo | Doug Jennings Park | 5 January

Enjoy high-action polo and picturesque surrounds as some of the world’s finest polo players take to the field, including world famous polo player Argentinian Nacho Figueras.

2019 Magic Millions Carnival | Gold Coast Turf Club | 8 – 14 January

An intensive week of racehorse sales, attracting the who’s who of the racing industry to the Gold Coast Turf Club. The social highlight is the Magic Millions Raceday, which features the richest race in Queensland. A classic Gold Coast summer event, tailor made for buyers, punters and fashionistas.

Eurovision Australia Decides | Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre | 7 – 8 February 

Australian performers and songwriters compete in one national show to determine which song and artist will represent the nation in Eurovision 2020 in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

Sand Safari Arts Festival | Surfers Paradise | 8 – 24 February

The Surfers Paradise foreshore and some other locations around town become a sand and and fairy tale inspired art gallery during this 17 day event.  It features the Australian Sand Sculpting Championships, a sand trail across the city, along with sand art activities and workshops.

Corona Pro Gold Coast | Snapper Rocks |  26 March – 5 April

Witness world-class surfing on world-class waves at world famous Snapper Rocks, the leading right hand point break in the southern hemisphere. The first stop on the World Surf League Championship Tour, this event sees the world’s top 34 males and top 18 females battle it out in a spectator sport not to be missed.

Gold Coast Triathlon – Luke Harrop Memorial | Southport Broadwater Parklands | 5 April

The 2020 Gold Coast Triathlon – Luke Harrop Memorial includes a packed entertainment schedule for the whole family to enjoy, with the best place for viewing the action from Mitchell Park where you will see the athletes transition from each leg and as it is a multi-lap course you will see them on each lap of the cycle and run.

Gold Coast Film Festival | Gold Coast – citywide | 15 – 26 April

Walk the red carpet on opening night alongside actors, filmmakers and film crew. Learn from Australia’s leading producers, writers and directors at intimate seminars and workshops. At the Gold Coast Film Festival, you will be captivated by internationally acclaimed dramas, comedies and genre films, locally made indie gems, engaging documentaries, family features, anime and the scariest horror films. With more than 80 film and film related events in 8 different locations, this festival is a celebration of film and film making from one of Australia’s top film destinations – the Gold Coast.

Australian Surf Life Saving Championships | Broadbeach and North Burleigh |  18 – 26 April

Hosted by Broadbeach and North Burleigh SLSC’s, the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships is an annual event where members from Australia’s 314 Surf Clubs come together to compete in more than 400 beach and ocean events. It is the largest event of its kind, only comparing the likes of the Commonwealth Games.

Cooly Classic Ocean Swim | Coolangatta | 26 April

Join swimmers from all over Australia for the Gold Coast’s premier ocean swim. The Cooly Classic offers competitors a rare opportunity to conquer three of Australia’s most revered surf breaks – Snapper Rocks, Coolangatta and Kirra. If you’re a seasoned swimmer or aspiring triathlete, the 3.0km long course is a great opportunity to test yourself beyond the typical open water distances.

Surfers Paradise LIVE | Surfers Paradise | 30 April – 3 May

Surfers Paradise LIVE is an award winning four day music festival in the heart of Surfers Paradise. A free event suitable for all ages, LIVE proudly presents a line-up of Australian artists to appeal to young and old music lovers alike. The event is a five-year partnership with the Gold Coast Music Awards, which are held on Day 1 of the festival. LIVE captures the spirit of great live music and showcases local and Australian bands and musicians across multiple stages and venues throughout Surfers Paradise.

Gold Coast Open | Burleigh Heads | 7 – 12 May

Renamed as the Gold Coast Open presented by Flight Centre. The event is a World Surf League (WSL) QS 1,500 rated Men’s and Women’s event, attracting a number of the best surfers from Australia and throughout the globe to the iconic Burleigh Point.

Blues on Broadbeach Music Festival | Broadbeach | 14 – 17 May

Blues on Broadbeach is one of Australia’s largest free music festivals spanning four bluesy days and nights, with a unique, village-like atmosphere and relaxed ambience. The free and non-ticketed event nurtures Australian talent as well as providing a stage for international acts.

Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show | Sanctuary Cove | 21 – 24 May

One of the most popular Gold Coast events, this four day show boasts more than 400 exhibitors. At this venue, you’ll come across Australian products as well as international products from Italy, China, Japan, UAE, India, the USA and the UK – exquisite boat varieties.

SeaFire | Surfers Paradise | 12 – 13 June

Winter goes off with a BANG in Surfers Paradise with SeaFire! Australia’s only international fireworks competition returns to the iconic Surfers Paradise Beach. Celebrate the spectacle of pyrotechnics with a night of hypnotic performance and thrilling fireworks brought to you by the world’s leading pyrotechnic designers.

Cooly Rocks On | Coolangatta | 3 – 7 June

The biggest 50s and 60s nostalgia festival in Australia! More than two kilometres of rock ‘n roll, Rockabilly, swing music and 1,000 hot rods, custom cars and classic vehicles lining the stunning beachfront of Coolangatta all over 5 huge days.

Australian Open Bowls | Gold Coast – Citywide | 13 – 26 June

The World’s Biggest Bowls Festival will again hit the sunny Gold Coast – the lawn bowls capital of Australia. With $250,000 in prize money and the heart of the event centred at the Broadbeach Bowls Club freshly renovated hot off the back of the Commonwealth Games, this competition will see plenty of people ready to roll up.

61st TV Week Logie Awards | The Star, Broadbeach | TBC

The TV Week Logie Awards (the Logies) are an annual event celebrating Australian television.  Established in 1960, the Logies have been held predominantly in Melbourne, Victoria, with the Gold Coast now the events new home.  The awards ceremony includes national and international entertainment and is broadcast free to air on Channel 9.

Gold Coast Marathon | Southport Broadwater Parklands | 4 – 5 July

Australia’s premier road race attracts more than 27,000 participants of all ages and abilities. The scenic course is considered one of the flattest and fastest courses in the world and the time of year usually boasts excellent weather conditions for running.

Australian University Nationals (Division 2) | Gold Coast – Citywide | TBC

Competing across more than 30 sports, the Gold Coast welcomes students from across Australia to take part in a week of serious sport and serious fun.

VIVA Surfers Paradise | Surfers Paradise | 10 – 19 July

VIVA Surfers Paradise provides 10 days of classic entertainment suitable for all ages. Musical acts and local dance troupes will set the mood in Cavill Mall with back-to-back performances during the day. In the official VIVA Theatre Marquee you can see a unique Feature Show every night, brought to you by Elvis Tribute Artists and world-class Tribute Acts able to recreate the sound and style of your favourite rock, pop and soul artists

Groundwater Country Music Festival | Broadbeach | 24 – 26 July

Centred around the pristine beachfront of Broadbeach, this free festival sees a perfect mix of board shorts and banjos, surf boards and steel guitars as country music’s finest assemble for three days and nights of classic entertainment. The Groundwater Country Music Festival celebrated its inaugural year in June 2013 with 20,000 attending over the three days with this number jumping to a whopping 73,000 boot scooters in 2019.

Bleach* The Gold Coast Festival | Gold Coast – citywide | 12 – 23 August

Bleach* Festival is the Gold Coast Festival, taking place annually across the City, usually in April it has moved this year to August. The program is one of Australia’s leading and most exciting site-specific contemporary arts programs. Quintessentially Gold Coast, Bleach* celebrates the city’s most dynamic and adventurous artists, welcomes renowned Australian and international collaborators and engages a broad audience through a range of events. Utilising the Gold Coast’s world-famous natural landscape as unconventional venues, Bleach* aims to deliver incredible arts and cultural experiences that challenge expectations, change perceptions and provide a unique and authentic sense of place, inspiring both locals and visitors alike.

Robbie McEwen Granfondo | Gold Coast Hinterland | 12 – 13 September

A mass participation cycling event with individual events for recreational cycling enthusiasts from beginner level to elite and also for children.  The aim is to give people the opportunity to ride on a supervised course while experiencing the beauty of the Gold Coast hinterland. Offering three courses of various distances, the event caters for different levels of ability which provides an opportunity for more riders to take part. This year they have added mountain bike and trail events to the program.

SWELL Sculpture Festival | Currumbin Beach | 11 – 20 September 

Currumbin Beach transforms into a vibrant outdoor gallery with Queensland’s largest, free outdoor exhibition SWELL Sculpture Festival. Open all hours, you can enjoy twilight walks, informative artist talks, discover new perspectives, wander through the Swell Smalls Gallery or participate in artist master classes and children’s workshops. The artworks are lit at night for a totally different perspective.

Australian University Nationals (Division 1) | Gold Coast – citywide | 28 September – 3 October

Coolangatta Gold | Coolangatta Beach | 12 – 13 October

The Coolangatta Gold is one of the most challenging endurance races in surf sports. It is open to the public and consists of a 21 km Short Course and a 41.8 km Long Course race. The multi-disciplinary course combines swimming, running, board paddling and surf skiing. Take it on as an individual or a team and challenge yourself.

Gold Coast 600 | Surfers Paradise | 30 October – 1 November

GC600 is the premier motorsport category in Australasia and one of Australia’s biggest sports. International expansion is occuring as the sport becomes globally recognised as one of the best touring car categories in the world and a leader in motorsport entertainment.

Australian PGA Championships | RACV Royal Pines | TBC

Australia’s most energetic golf tournament, the Australian PGA Championship is back at RACV Royal Pines Resort. The 2020 event will feature a stellar list of Australian and international players.  The tournament hosts an array of entertainment on and off the course with fans celebrating in the sun with great food, music and entertainment – this one is a real festival of golf!
