Gold Coast swimwear designer, Jasmin Young has been named the 2019 Gold Coast Business Women of the Year.
The 24 year old self-taught designer and businesswoman took out the major award on Friday 22 March at the 2019 Annual Gold Coast Girls in Business Gala Awards Night.
Her business, Summer/Addiction Swimwear is taking over summer’s worldwide by encouraging and promoting a happy, healthy and positive body image throughout her brand.
In 2018, Summer/Addiction began a new initiative to further support and promote positive body image.
As part of their new campaign, she began a new initiative to further support and promote positive body image by pledging to donate $1 from every bikini sale to The Butterfly Foundation, with the aim to help the Foundation with their prevention and early intervention strategies of negative body image and eating disorders.
“In a world where social media and photoshop is king, we want women to know that we are all ‘bikini body ready’ regardless of our size, shape, nationality or age,” says Jasmin.
“At Summer/Addiction we celebrate inclusivity. We want women across the globe to feel beautiful, empowered and confident while wearing our swimwear.”
Since its establishment in 2016, Summer/Addiction has continued to grow and adapt in the marketplace.
By fusing high-end European chic with a Brazilian twist, Summer/Addiction has distinguished itself firmly in the marketplace.
“Our strong vision for colour, quality and style sets us apart. We’ve taken risks to design products and incorporate colours that are unique, timeless and distinctive in the marketplace,” says Jasmin.

“My love for all things summer and the beach is ultimately what inspired me to create this business. I’ve always loved swimwear, but could never find the perfect bikini that was supportive, stylish and flattering in all the right places. By fusing high-end European chic with a Brazilian twist, I wanted to create a niche brand for Summer/Addiction that could distinguish itself firmly in the marketplace.
“I had a strong vision for colour, quality and style that would set us apart from other brands. I also wanted to take risks to design products and incorporate colours that were unique, timeless and distinctive in the marketplace. I also had a clear vision to bring a sense of innovation to the swimwear world. We did this in our very first collection by designing a signature bikini top that could be worn five unique ways. This is one of the most versatile bikini tops on the market. Apart from all of this, we wanted to create a product that people would genuinely love and be proud to wear,” says Jasmin.
Winning the award
“I am honestly still shocked to have won this prestigious award. The room on the awards night was filled with so many incredible, inspiring women who were all deserving of recognition. It was a fantastic event and a great opportunity to support everyone’s business achievements and success. When women support women, amazing things happen and the awards night was a true testament of that,” says Jasmin.
Adapting in the marketplace
“Swimwear is one of the most competitive industries in the fashion market. A huge demand for swimwear brings a larger dose of competition – and fierce rivalry breeds impeccable designs and growth strategies.
“As a swimwear brand, we are forever evolving, improving and growing to raise the bar and to continue to be distinctive in the marketplace.
“Originally, we thought Summer/Addiction would only sell swimwear products and it would be sold exclusively via our online website. Over time, we have seen a huge demand for not just swimwear pieces, but also everything summer. Last year, our growth strategy included expanding Summer/Addiction to include a range of resort wear and accessories, so all of our summer needs could be found in one location. This allows our customers to pair their favourite bikini with accessories and pieces that complement their look. This growth strategy also meant that our average items per transaction increased dramatically,” says Jasmin.
