Crosshatch# group exhibition @ Level Up Studio + Gallery
Crosshatch# features the artwork of four emerging artists from the Gold Coast and surrounds, Rebecca Ray, Imogen Sartain, Daniel Pap and Kristian Fracchia.
The connective thread between their unique styles is a mastery of line and space, whether exploring fantastical worlds or deeply personal narratives in their work.
About the Artists:
KRISTIAN FRACCHIA: Acknowledging the volatile nature of the ocean and the tenuous relationship we have with it, Fracchia uses water and drowning as emblematic of the transient nature of life.
REBECCA RAY: Rebecca Ray is a multidisciplinary artist, working primarily in printmaking, textile design and sculpture. With her ancestral lineage from the Torres Strait Islands, these art forms have helped Rebecca reconnect with her rich cultural heritage.
DANIEL PAP: Inspired by vibrant colour design, Daniel Pap aims to twist conventional approaches to representational drawing and painting with an ink on paper technique he learnt during a residency in Germany in 2018. His intention with these paintings was to depict iPhones, cigarettes and lust in an attempt to discuss acute addictions and how they have morphed our existence.
IMOGEN SARTAIN: Sartain has always been an illustrative artist, with a passion for creating characters that often erred on the side of cute. It wasn’t until a trip to Japan, and seeing the tiny, patio gardens that flourished within the urban landscape that she felt a need to turn to botanical imagery through her art.
