Nerang Street has been Southport’s main street since the late 1800s. In more recent times, Nerang Street’s identity as a CBD main street has declined. As our CBD continues to evolve, Nerang Street will play a vital role in generating economic activity, servicing the community and providing opportunities for a broad range of social interactions.
As part of the Gold Coast CBD Program 2025, the CBD Main Street Revitalisation project has been identified as a key initiative to help position the CBD as a dynamic destination for business, investment, education and leisure.
The CBD Main Street Revitalisation will involve significant background research and investigations, community consultation and the preparation of a comprehensive revitalisation plan. A revitalisation Master Plan for Nerang Street will guide future development and deliver physical infrastructure improvements to the public realm.
The CBD Main Street Revitalisation is focussed on Nerang Street, from High Street in the west to Marine Parade / Southport Broadwater Parklands in the east.
What's happening now
The project team is currently developing the draft revitalisation plan. The draft plan is based on the findings of the background research and investigations, and input from the Nerang Street stakeholders and community.
