In 2014, the City’s Sister City Beihai, provided an artistic conceptual design for the Harmony Paifang for the new Gold Coast Chinatown. The concept is in the Han Dynasty style, and stems from over 2000 years of history. The Harmony Paifang consists of two towers that mark the eastern entrance to Chinatown on the corner of Young and Scarborough Streets, Southport.

In addition to the Harmony Paifang, Beihei also provided the design for the Harvest Paifang which was completed in 2016 and is located on the western end of Chinatown on the corner of Young and Garden Streets.

The City has an Agreement of Friendship & Cooperation with Jining, China. Jining City donated a carved stone statue of the great Chinese philosopher Confucius which now has pride of place in Gold Coast Chinatown.

The City signed a Sister City Agreement with the city of Chengdu, China in May 2019. Chengdu Municipal People's Government, along with Chengdu Dov. Design Co and Urban Art Projects, helped design the third Paifang that was constructed in Gold Coast Chinatown.

The Wealth Paifang was finished in 2018 and spans 14 metres across Davenport Street, near Davison Lane, and stands nine metres high. Traditional Chinese craftsman made many of the Paifang materials, contributing to its authenticity. The Paifang greeting translates to 'wishing you good fortune and everything you desire' and is a popular Chinese saying.
