Key attractions

The Broadwater (which is the name of the water mass that hugs Southport’s coastline) is used for a range of recreational activities including fishing, boating and watersports. It is also home to the Southport Yacht Club and a number of marinas. The Broadwater is fronted by the Broadwater Parklands which is a popular area with locals and visitors alike. Southport is also bordered by the Nerang River.

Australia Fair Shopping Centre (located in the Southport CBD) is a large indoor shopping centre containing 233 stores as well as Event Cinemas. A segment of this shopping centre, now known as Australia Fair Metro, has recently undergone a $15 million make over.

The Southport Branch Library opened in 2002 and is one of 14 branches of the city’s library network. The Local Studies Library (located upstairs) contains the city’s historical collection of materials including photographs, films, documents and iconic memorabilia.

Southport boasts world class sporting facilities such as the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre (GCAC), and great community facilities such as the Southport Community Centre.

Broadwater Parklands

The centrally located Broadwater Parklands not only offers magnificent views and wide open spaces for community events, there are also a number of more intimate locations such as the Pier and the Rooftop featuring the spectacular backdrop of the Surfers Paradise skyline.

The park offers a wide variety of recreational options including picnics and barbecues, strolling on the rooftop terrace to take in the spectacular views of Surfers Paradise, fishing off the pier, swimming, and lunchtime sports on the Great Lawn.

Kids will love splashing around in the popular, fun-filled Rockpools – a great way to cool down on a summer day.

The southern reclamation area is now 2.8 hectares of useable open space – four touch football fields end to end. Located on Marine Parade, Southport, the three kilometre stretch of parklands along the foreshore is an ideal destination for all to enjoy.

The Broadwater Parklands also hosts a wide range of events. Whether you’re looking to participate in an event or hold one yourself, the Broadwater Parklands is the place to go.

Southport Library

The Southport Library is located on the corner of Garden and Lawson Streets in Southport and is one of 13 dynamic libraries throughout the Gold Coast.

The library network on the Gold Coast provides access to nearly one million items in a range of formats and provides access to free computers, wifi and versatile spaces such as community meeting rooms.

Southport library also holds an exciting range of activities and special events for free.

Aquatic Centre

The Gold Coast Aquatic Centre (GCAC) is located in the Broadwater Parklands and is a world class facility. Recently, this facility underwent an impressive $40 million redevelopment and was the host of the swimming and diving for the 2018 Commonwealth Games. This outstanding facility provides many benefits not only to elite athletes and the general community, but also offers world class conference and meeting rooms for the business community.

The Aquatic Centre has six pools including a 10 lane competition pool, an 8 lane training pool and a diving pool with diving platforms of various heights (3, 5, 7.5 and 10 metres off the ground). It also has an impressive dry land dive training facility, a fitness centre, café and world class conference and meeting rooms.

Community Centre

The Southport Community Centre as the name suggests is available for the community to use. It is located near public transport and is in the heart of Southport.

This facility consists of a large multi-purpose hall with timber flooring which is ideal for functions, events and expos; two performing arts rooms suitable for a variety of activities; a fully-equipped conference room and carpeted meeting and activity rooms of various sizes which include accessible kitchen facilities.
