A striking new cultural destination is planned for the Gold Coast, with new visual and performing arts facilities and a programmed outdoor Artscape, the completed Cultural Precinct will support the city’s already thriving cultural evolution.
The Cultural Precinct will deliver spaces for an eclectic mix of activities including theatre, dance, media, music and visual arts, which will nestle comfortably alongside an array of recreation opportunities.
Once complete, the Precinct will deliver an unforgettable outdoor Artscape, a distinctive New Arts Museum and a Living Arts Centre for excellence in the performing arts – a cultural precinct for a world-class city.
Innovative creative hub
The Cultural Precinct is being designed as a 24-hour nerve centre, likely to attract greater numbers to the Gold Coast’s already significant tourism sector.
An extensive program of outdoor activities will provide a bustling backdrop to glass-walled education spaces and creative writers’ hubs.
The cinemas and galleries will feed into a rich sub-tropical oasis, providing an urban sanctuary for visitors as well as showcasing an array of dining opportunities.
Stage One of the Precinct will be up and running in time for the Commonwealth Games in 2018 and includes the versatile outdoor performance space and initial Artspace works.
Stage one includes creating a versatile outdoor space with a stage and event platform in a garden-style amphitheatre, catering for audiences of up to 5,000 and a wide range of civic events and performances.
First pieces of the Artscape around Evandale Lake
Stage one will also include initial Artscape works surrounding an enhanced Evandale Lake, activated by artistic programming, markets, festivals, cinema and family recreation.
