Investment into key sport infrastructure in preparation for the Commonwealth Games will leave a lasting legacy whilst improving our capacity to attract and host international events.

Gold Coast International Airport

The Gold Coast International Airport is undergoing a $200 million transformation to allow the Airport to function more efficiently in the lead up to GC2018. Redevelopment includes five new ‘air bridges’, a new three-level terminal building and adding extra space for large aircrafts to accommodate additional flights and passengers. Benefits include creating additional employment, delivering better service, generating further economic activities and providing capacity for future growth.

Jewel

Once complete Jewel, the three-tower luxury $1 billion resort will become Australia’s largest hotel and residential complex with 500 apartments, 171 hotel rooms and dozens of luxury retail precincts. Spanning over 130 metres of Surfers Paradise beachfront the five-star hotel, funded by China's richest man Wang Jianlin, will be the first true beachfront residential resort in more than 30 years.

Jupiter’s Hotel and Casino

The $345 million Jupiter’s Hotel and Casino project involves refurbishments to the existing hotel, the unveiling of six new food and beverage experiences, and a new luxury six-star tower that will take shape in preparation for GC2018.

Pacific Fair Shopping Centre

Pacific Fair Shopping Centre’s $670 million redevelopment has created 120 new retailers, 1,540 new retail jobs, and added a world-class shopping destination to the Gold Coast.

Chinatown

The Gold Coast’s Chinatown precinct is an integral part of the development of the CBD as a thriving, multi-cultural city centre. The $6.8 million precinct currently under construction will offer an authentic Asian experience and create a unique destination.

Light rail

The $1.6 billion Gold Coast light rail is the biggest transportation infrastructure project to be undertaken on the Gold Coast and has been described as a city-transforming initiative that will create a world-class transportation system, and increase opportunities for development and investment along the light rail corridor.

Kurrawa Terrace

Kurrawa Terrace is the Gold Coast’s first absolute beachfront-dedicated, fully serviced outdoor event space. The Commonwealth Games legacy project has been developed to attract new business events to the Gold Coast by offering a ‘toes in the sand’ experience that is distinctly Gold Coast.

Broadwater Parklands

Broadwater Parklands is a significant Commonwealth Games legacy project, providing a new open recreational space for visitors during the Games and for future generations. The upgrades include a new community facility, Northern Pavilion, an environmental education shelter, four-lane boat ramp and additional parking spaces.
