The city has extensive tourism infrastructure and continues to invest in this sector to meet future demands. Major developments that are underway or have been recently completed on the Gold Coast include the expansion of the Gold Coast International Airport, the upgrade of Pacific Fair Shopping Centre, the redevelopment of Jupiter’s Hotel and Casino (now The Star Gold Coast), the development of Jewel (5-star resort), the development of the Gold Coast Cultural Precinct, the establishment of Gold Coast Chinatown and the development of the Light Rail.
Additionally, approximately $200 million is being invested into key sport infrastructure in preparation for the 2018 Commonwealth Games, which will leave a lasting legacy and improve the city's capacity to attract and host international events. Key sport infrastructure includes the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre, Carrara Sports Precinct and the Coomera Indoor Sports Centre.
