Optimism Exhibition at Level Up

Optimism is the new exhibition of works by Sascha Bravery, Timothy Fry and Isaac Roxburgh showing at Level Up Gallery from August to September, 2019.

Optimism is an inherent part of human existence; the resilience and ardor that it evokes in us is lifesaving. Without it our world is doomed for pessimistic and nihilistic dominance. Living in a world harrowed by climatic urgency and political dichotomies, optimism is paramount.

In this varied collection of works from three artists working in different studio practices, the everyday conversation with optimism is explored as well as captured. Through practice led research, each artist took stock of the different scenarios they were presented; whether optimism was present during a work’s inception, intended in its conceptualism, or hidden somewhere within the process, found through perseverance, and/or in completed reflection. Optimism is a dance found manoeuvring between the pleasant and the difficult, the satisfying and confronting. Optimism is a happy medium, no pun intended.

The nuances of each artist’s interpretations transpired through their unique ritual practices, processes of mark making, and investigation of materiality. The result is a vivid collection of exciting and engaging works utilising printmaking, painting, drawing and sculpture that capture the process of optimism.
