Sand Angels, World Record Attempt

World Record Attempt | Sand Angels

The Gold Coast is kicking off the festive season with a summer twist – sand angels style!

Join us as the Gold Coast sets out to break the world record for Most People Making Sand Angels Simultaneously. The current record of 1,387 sand angels is held by a city without a stunning ocean beach front like our city (Michigan, USA). We know the Gold Coast can beat this – please spread the word!

The beach will also lend a hand to the bush, with We Are Gold Coast and Groundwater Country Music Festival joining forces to support Drought Angels. We’re welcoming gold coin donations on the day to help aid Aussie farmers and rural communities in need.

We’d love you to be part of making history for the Gold Coast. So ‘be an angel’ and come along and register at 6am, with the record attempt scheduled at 6.40am.

Can’t make it on the day but want to help our Aussie farmers? Show your support over at Drought Angels’ official GiveEasy page.

Getting to Kurrawa Beach is easy! Catch the G:Link to the ‘Broadbeach North’ station, or if you’re a local, why not walk, ride, scoot or skate to the event. There is also limited street parking available.

  • Who can participate? (age, ability, etc.)
Everyone is welcome! However, we do advise the event will take place on soft sand and participation includes lying down to make a sand angel. We recommend taking this into consideration for your participation.
  • When will we know if we achieved the world record?
It can take up to 12 weeks for our World Record attempt to be verified and assessed. We will keep you posted on any updates through here on wearegc.com.au, so stay tuned.
  • What should we wear on the day?
We recommend wearing comfortable casual clothing to make a sand angel.
  • Rules of the event?
    • Locate a clean area of sand that is clean and has not been walked through. (We are Gold Coast will have space preserved for all participants).
    • Make sure there is enough space to make a sand angel.
    • Participants must lie on their back in the sand, keep their body flat and brush their arms between their head and waist in a sweeping motion. Each participant must move their legs apart as far as they will go and then together again at the same time.
    • Repeat these motions until indentations in the sand have been made.
    • When getting up, participants must not step into or make a hand-print in the sand angel.
    • All participants must make their sand angel for at least 15 seconds
